Bearing PV Value

The maximum operating PV value of EPT series bearings is 0.4 N/mm²·m/s. This means the load borne by the bearing is inversely proportional to its speed. Refer to Chart EPT-1 for details.

Bearing Load, Speed and Temperature

The EPT series bearings can withstand a maximum static load of 35 MPa. Refer to Chart EPT-2 for the maximum compression set of the bearing under this load. The actual working load of the bearing should be slightly less than 35 MPa. The load is also affected by operating speed and temperature. Higher speed (Vmax: 1.0 m/s) will increase frictional temperature, and rising temperature (Tmax: 80℃) will gradually reduce the bearing load capacity. Refer to Chart EPT-3 for the variation of load with bearing operating temperature.

Bearing Coefficient of Friction

The coefficient of friction of EPT bearings is relatively less affected by changes in operating speed and bearing load (see Charts EPT-4 and EPT-5). This is one of the reasons why EPT is selected as a general-purpose plastic bearing grade. This bearing maintains a relatively low coefficient of friction to ensure superior friction and wear performance. As shown in Chart EPT-6, the coefficient of friction of EPT bearings varies with the surface roughness of the mating shaft. We recommend a shaft surface roughness of Ra 0.3~0.5 μm for this bearing.

Wear and Shaft Material

Shaft material has a significant influence on bearing wear. However, EPT bearings are compatible with nearly all shaft materials. As shown in Charts EPT-7 and EPT-8, EPT bearings exhibit excellent wear characteristics when used with hard chrome-plated steel shafts, hardened steel shafts and hardened aluminum shafts.

Chemical Resistance

EPT plastic bearings are resistant to corrosion from weak alkalis, weak acids and various lubricating oils.

Water Absorption

At standard atmospheric pressure, the moisture absorption rate of EPT plastic bearings is 0.3%, and the maximum water absorption rate when immersed in water is 1.2%. Its low water absorption rate requires bearing design modifications only in extreme applications.

UV Resistance

When EPT is exposed to ultraviolet radiation for a long time, its color basically remains unchanged. The material’s hardness, compressive strength and wear resistance stay unchanged.
